The Clark County School District has launched a study to define a future facilities master plan for the CCSD. As part of that study, it recently released Survey #2 to get input on three possible options regarding the future of our Moapa Valley school facilities. Option A is to essentially keep our schools the way they are right now. Option B is to add capacity at Grant Bowler Elementary. Option C opens the door to closing Mack Lyon Middle School and reassigning middle school students to either one of the elementary schools or the high school. The survey can be confusing and even misleading, especially with references to implementing “beneficial” programs and uses and “trade-up” conditions associated with repurposing facilities. Your answers might be misapplied to justify closing a school facility. In the past two community meetings held in Moapa Valley, no parents, students or teachers have favored Option C. We need all of our school facilities!
To avoid sending the wrong signal to the CCSD in the survey, be very cautious how you answer optional Questions 8 through 16. Question 13 is especially devious. When you get to Question 17, be sure to continue, select Ute Perkins ES, Grant Bowler ES, Lyon MS and MV HS and then rate your support for Options A, B and C relative to those schools. You may agree it’s best to strongly agree with Options A or B and to strongly oppose Option C.
The survey is available only online and will be active until May 22. Anyone in the community is eligible to take the survey. Go to the following link or use this QR code to participate.
