Emergency responders continue working to contain the fire. Community members are being asked to avoid the area to allow firefighters and support personnel room to operate safely.
Officials thanked the community for its patience and support as crews continue suppression efforts. Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
This fire was for sure scary. I am a student there at Hughes middle, and let me tell you, people were calling parents at first lunch hour. Us students were scared as ash had fallen upon us. I surely recommend a quick look over the school to make sure smoke didn’t enter any air conditioning or ash didn’t land in any hallways, many kids were coughing and complaining of their throats burning from 9-till we left.
