MESQUITE, Nev. — One person was killed, and three others were transported to area hospitals following a fiery, four-vehicle collision that shut down northbound Interstate 15 near Mesquite for several hours Sunday afternoon.

Mesquite Fire Rescue responded to the crash at approximately 1:50 p.m. on July 5. The collision occurred in the northbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 122 and prompted a multi-agency emergency response.

An RV overturned during the incident and was engulfed in flames, sending a large column of thick, black smoke into the air. Debris was scattered across the roadway as emergency crews worked the scene. The circumstances surrounding the RV fire and its role in the collision have not been released.

With assistance from Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire Department, Life Flight, the Mesquite Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol, three patients were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. One fatality was confirmed.

Authorities had not released additional information regarding the person who died or the conditions of those transported. The Nevada Highway Patrol was leading the investigation into the collision. The cause of the crash had not been determined, and no additional details were immediately available.

Northbound I-15 later reopened to traffic, though motorists were advised to expect slower-than-normal traffic flow through the area.

Mesquite Fire Rescue thanked the assisting agencies for their coordinated response and reminded motorists to remain attentive behind the wheel, reduce speeds, eliminate distractions and move over for emergency vehicles and personnel working along Nevada roadways.
