Why? Is rolling over easier than standing our ground? I wish I could be available to attend these town board meetings (MVTAB Decides Against Holding Straw Poll: Progress, August 18, 2010).
I know that being very still and quiet, waiting to be ramrodded, would appear easier, on the surface, to some of us. Board member Metz is right. It is disheartening and it does cause friction to get railroaded. It’s supposed to cause friction, because it’s wrong! And I’m not the only one who says so.
I’m certain that Mr. (Tom) Collins was eloquent in his lengthy commentary. And, in part, he is right. (Ee-gads! Did I say that?) We do have a republic form of government. But shouldn’t it be the people elected by our community who appoint a person to represent our community? Mr. Collins has been vocal about his being elected by other people in other places. It wasn’t us, even by his own accounting.
And another thing… recognizing the needs of the county is not my neighbors’ first priority. Nor is it mine. Is it yours?
Board member Doty is also correct, in my view, in his claim that we don’t have boundaries of interest any more. I reside in Logandale and am always extremely concerned with Overton, as that’s where many businesses are, that I frequent. The places I do my grocery shopping are in Overton. And as anyone who knows me can tell you, I’m overly attached to my food and food sources.
But, it’s true if you think about it, perhaps it won’t hurt so bad the next time we’re run over by the County Commission if we’re already laying down. Maybe later, they will teach us all how to sit up and beg. Why wouldn’t they? We’re already rolled over.
