River Valley Bible Church held its annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) last week with the theme of “Keepers of the Kingdom.” Throughout the week, the VBS teachers stressed to the children the importance of “standing strong for truth in today’s world.”

The VBS team members went to great lengths to get the point across and make it fun for the kids. Enrollment was open to the public, church members and non-members alike.

The entire River Valley Bible Church building was transformed into a medieval castle for the VBS. The castle even came complete with a talking dragon.
“It is our hope vacation bible school will help the children understand that God loves them and wants to redeem them from sin,” said River Valley Bible Church Pastor Craig Janson said,

There were 40 children enrolled for the VBS. This enrollment was split up into groups to attend three different classes. One group was in the main room of the castle complete with stone walls. A knight, played by Pastor Janson himself was there to teach about wearing the body armor of God.

This included a truth belt. The knight also had help from a talking dragon head on the wall. These two characters had the attention of all the children.

In another classroom that was decorated to look like a medieval banquet hall, the children were crafting a truth belt to wear, fashioned from construction paper.

Yet another group was outside enjoying fun games in the roped off parking lot area.
There was even a jousting game for the kids using balloons as their weapons.

The older teens and young adults of the church helped to lead the youth of the realm in their games.
Some of the teachers and a few kiddos dressed like medieval characters. Everyone was having a good time.

VBS coordinator Jo Keller said that the VBS team members had put in over 50 hours of work creating this castle for the kids.
