The Mesquite 2 Moapa Democrats officially have a place that they can call home during the election season this year. The local political club opened a Biden/Harris campaign office on the south side of Mesquite Plaza on Thursday morning.

The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the office officially opening the doors of the 830 sq ft office space to the public. The office is located at 312 W. Mesquite Boulevard, Suite 103.

The new office will be home to local Democrats from both Nevada and Arizona during the election season.
“Mohave County (Arizona) is a big county over there and they don’t have connections or a place,” said Arizona District 4 Chair Catherine Wright. “It was a perfect fit that we work both states together.”

Those present for the ribbon cutting included Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Carol Kolson, Mesquite Mayor Al Litman, M2M Chair Karen Dutkowski, M2M 1st Vice Chair Elaine Hurd, M2M 2nd Vice Chair Kelli Estes, M2M Treasurer Darren Paulsen, M2M Secretary Rebecca Paulsen, Wright, and AZ District 4 First Vice Chair Sallie Ellington.

The partnership between the two local state Democratic entities is expected to help get more voter registration together and get the election process and rights brought up to be a center of promotion for everyone.

“I don’t care whether you are Democrat or Republican,” Hurd said. “We are happy to see these two parties are really active in the area. I’m very happy to see how active politics has become in this area.”

Hurd said they were all excited about the new space to call home and to start getting to their primary objective for the office of renewing the importance of the political system amongst the nation’s citizens.
“Voter registration is the goal,” Dutkowski said in regards to the lower numbers nationwide in voter turnout.

The campaign office will be in use and open only during the election season and will run up to election day with a gathering of people on that day to follow the election results.
The hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 am until 4:00 p.m.

Even though they held the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week with treats, finger food and time to socialize, Dutkowski said there will be a grand opening later this summer at the beginning of August, times to be announced soon.

Hurd said the grand opening will have some high-profile visitors including Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and other federal and state politicians and leaders from both states.
In addition, US Senator Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) is expected to be visiting the campaign office as well. That will be announced when the date and time are confirmed.

More than 50 people walked around the office, checking out the three TV screens, campaign posters and other political memorabilia and enjoying some food, chatting for a bitt.
“People don’t notice, but how much enthusiasm in the Democrats really do we have?” said Wright. “I mean if you watch Fox News and some other news stations, you’re thinking that we’re dead in the water but we’re anything but that. We’re here and stronger than ever.”
