Local midwife Jill Lamping DEM, NH will be holding Free Childbirth & Breastfeeding Education Classes at the Moapa Valley Library in Overton. The first class is Sat. Feb 12 at 1:00 pm. These classes will cover all aspects of prenatal care, pregnancy, labor, delivery, newborns, breastfeeding and postpartum care.
A traditional midwife, herbalist and educator, Lamping says that her profession is not just a job but a calling. “I believe that part of my mission in life is to help to empower women and families to experience birth the best way possible,” Lamping said. “This includes having faith in yourself and God; imprinting with your baby; and making informed choices though knowledge and inspiration, not fear.”
Lamping is a mother of four. She not only talks the talk, but she has walked the walk three times in Overton with her last three VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) homebirths.
Jill said that she comes from a long line of midwives from both sides of her family. It is her talent and passion. One grandmother was even delivering babies into her 80’s, including twins.
Lamping is quick to extol the benefits of home birth. “Pregnancy is not a disease, it is a natural process,” she said. “Homebirth has only gotten safer as women have access to nutritional foods, learn about health and cleanliness. Hospital birth didn’t become the norm in the U.S. until about 1940.”
Lamping believes that women should be able to choose how and where they give birth. “I think that women inherently want what is best for their family and will make the right choice for their family through education and inspiration, not fear.”
