The Clark County Parks and Rec Summer Sports Camp is keeping local kids, ages 8-14 busy on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer. The program is designed to teach the youth various sports and to encourage friendship.
From 12:30 to 4:30 pm on Tuesdays, at the Logandale Fairgrounds Fine Arts Building, the group of approximately 46 kids learn and play sports. These can including soccer, basketball, kickball, flag football, dodge ball and more.
On Thursdays the group swims at the Logandale Pool.
“We do quick activities and then focus on one sport each week,” said Elmer Lopez of the local Parks and Rec staff.
Lopez said that, even while swimming, the kids will have some aspect of a sport to focus on while in the pool.
Youth participant Scott Hardy said that his favorite aspect of the program so far as been playing kickball.
“It’s a very competitive thing,” he said, adding that he enjoys playing with other youth from school.
The activities aid in keeping kids active during the hot summer as each participates and spends hours running around in various athletic activities.
