Festival of Trees To Bring In Holiday Season

By STEPHANIE BUNKER

christmas-tree-festival1The Festival of Tree’s brings that warm and festive feeling to holiday season; this year will be no different. The Old Logandale School Historical and Cultural Society (OLSHACS) will be hosting the festival on the weekend of December 4-5 with all the trim and tinsel to go with it.

The main ingredient of the festival is, of course, the Christmas trees that are creatively decorated by local businesses, families, and organizations. They donate the tree and ornaments to OLSHACS which in turn sells them to the public in a silent auction.
Not only trees are auctioned off but there are other Christmas items such as gingerbread houses, wreaths and other decorations.

Robin Maughan, who organizes the event, reported that 100% of the proceeds go to funding the Old Logandale School building for the coming year.
“Besides our membership drive the Festival of Tree’s is our main fundraiser,” She said. “But in it we found a fun tradition to look forward to and it makes the holidays festive.”
Santa Claus will be coming to visit the children on Friday night from 6-7 pm and again on Saturday afternoon 1-2pm.

There are also several performances to enjoy including kids from Bowler Elementary School singing and dance groups.
There will be cupcake walks on both days and a raffle will be held for the chance to win plenty of holiday-themed prizes.

There will be a room dedicated to Nativity scenes for people to browse through. Vendors will be there providing ideas for Christmas gifts. Mrs. Claus will even have a bakery of holiday goodies.
A tree decorating service is also being offered this year for those that want to donate a tree but don’t want to decorate it themselves,
“A team of decorators is on standby to go purchase the tree and ornaments and decorate the tree in your name,” Maughan said.
She mentioned that the donation can be applied as a tax deduction.

Those that decorate their own tree need to bring them to the Old Logandale School on Thursday Dec. 3. Those that want to volunteer to help with the festival can contact Robin Maughan, Rebecca Muhlestein, or Rhonda Pulsipher.
