The organizers of the Overton Fall Festival and Car Show are working in cooperation with the local chapter of Cactus Cruisers to put on what they are calling a Pre-Car Show Event on Saturday, May 31 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Overton Park. According to its organizers, the event had humble beginnings to start, but has since mushroomed into what could be a significant car show in and of itself.
“We started off the thing with the intention of just getting people together in a meeting to start organizing this year’s Car Show,” said organizer Russ Babb. “But it kind of got away from us. It should be a lot of fun, though.”
One of the things that gave the event a real head of steam was the idea to make it a benefit for local car collector Robert Chvilicek who is currently suffering from cancer. With a good cause to pull for, car collectors from all over the place started coming out of the woodwork to participate.
In addition to strong participation from the Cactus Cruisers, there will be a strong showing from the Mustang Club of Las Vegas and the High Rollers Club from Mesquite. Also, representatives from American Performance Cycles in Las Vegas, were eager to come out and participate. Any local car collectors are being encouraged to come and show off their cars in an informal setting on Saturday.
“We aren’t charging an entry fee or anything like that,” said Babb.
The public is invited to come down to the park on Saturday and take a look at the cars on display. “Even people who don’t have cars to show can come down and take a look and have a good time,” Babb said.
A lunch of burgers and hotdogs will be served free of charged, sponsored by the Best Western North Shore Inn. Live band, KLEO will also perform at the event.
“We do encourage people to make donations to the cause though,” Babb concluded. “The whole point is that by the end of the day we’ll be able to give some help to our friend Mr. Chvilicek.”
