Brooke’s Good Deeds Food Pantry has had it’s second food and supplies delivery and intends on expanding dates and services to the residents of Moapa Valley.

Located at 3475 N. Moapa Valley Blvd. in Logandale, the new hours of operation are: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8am-noon for all ages, and Fridays 8am-noon for those who are 60 years and older. Appointments can be made for times other than those.

Logandale residents Shanna and Gary McPheters are administrators of Brooke’s Good Deeds which is named in memory of their daughter who was killed by a drunk driver in August of 2013. Brooke was 15 years old at the time.

Since that time, the McPheters have dedicated much of their time to serving others in need.
“After the loss of Brooke, there has been nothing more powerful than helping others,” said Gary McPheters.

Brooke’s Good Deeds is partnered with regional nonprofit, Three Square for the food deliveries. Both programs are free to anyone who signs up with no income requirements. For the Golden Groceries program (60 and over), arrangements can even be made for home delivery.

For the all ages group, much more than food is available. Depending on supply availability this can include things like diapers, detergent and more. These additional items are donated by companies partnering with Three Square. For now, anyone can go to the pantry during business hours and pick 5-10 items and go back every 2 weeks.

For the Golden Groceries group, the food items available from Three Square are shelf stable. The goal is to get some shelving put up so one can shop, as if in a grocery store. This program is once per month.
“We have a grant and are committed to serve at least 400 seniors, but our goal is to serve all the seniors in the valley,” Shanna McPheters said.

But that’s not all the McPheters’ have in store for the community at Brooke’s Good Deeds. There is a new tea room set up at the facility as a gathering place for the community. They did this because Brooke loved afternoon tea. The room is also meant for grief groups for children and dementia classes, and can be used as a meeting room if there is need for it.

Also at the location is a small office where services can be offered including a mental health provider, PACT and the Salvation Army of Mesquite.
“We want to get everyone fed, then do wrap around services,” McPheters said. “When we take away the stress of not having food, we can help in other areas that are needed here.”

Johnny Richardson and her grandson Chase stopped by Brooke’s Good Deeds pantry last week to grab some water and Gatorade. “This is great!” Johnny said. “We needed this here and it is easy to get to.”

Gary and Shanna were happy to give a tour, showing people around and explaining how things work. Gary emphasized the importance and need to provide this service.
“Here, there are no judgments or income requirements,” Gary said. “Pretty much every single person needs help these days. Do not think you are not allowed to come here, even if you have a good job.”

The McPheters’ will be expanding as more grant funds are allocated. The more people who use this service, the more they will be able to provide.

The Southern Nevada Diagnostic Imaging (SNDI) Mobile Ultrasound Imaging center will be coming to Brooke’s Good Deeds on Aug. 25 from 10 am to 2 pm. SNDI accepts most insurance providers or for cash pay patients any ultrasound exam is $175. TO schedule an appointment call 702-331-9182 or email admin@sndihealth.com.
