The highlight of these games, at least for the local guards, was the opening skit portion of the event. Each pool team chose a different theme and performed a little skit for the other pools. The Logandale guards performed a lovely square dance as the Logandale Hillbillies. Due to a technical glitch, the world will never know how great the Overton Camp Heavyweight skit could have been. But both teams enjoyed dressing up and showing off.
After the skits, the guards competed in several relays that help to hone their life-saving skills. These included a rescue tube relay, a cardiac relay and a spinal competition. Each of these are different things lifeguards must be able to do in order to save lives at their pools. However the guards also had a little fun with light-hearted relays. They had a wet shirt relay, and they had a cashier event, to see how quickly the guards could calculate someone’s pool fees. At the end of the evening Overton and Logandale came in ninth and tenth respectively. However, according to Rachelle Lyon, local Parks and Rec. Aquatics Representative, that score didn’t matter to the local guards. “Our guards really enjoy getting themes together and doing the little skit at the beginning,” she said. “They don’t love the competitions, so they don’t worry too much about being the fastest at all the relays, and that’s O.K.” |
