There were walls full of artist illusions at the Mesquite Fine Arts Center on Thursday afternoon at the monthly Virgin Valley Artist Association awards ceremony.
The competitive exhibition had been open for viewing throughout the month of October. The theme for the month was “Its all an illusion.”
The awards ceremony featured wine and hors d’oeuvres with time to mingle with the various artists.
This month Randy Bauman won Best of Show for his digitally enhanced photograph of trees titled “Infinite Imaginings.”
Mayor’s Choice and People’s Choice award went to Charyn McDonnell for “Fading illusion to the past.”
The Sponsor’s Choice award went to Christine Picior for her color pencil drawing of two faces of Robin Williams entitled “Was it really in illusion.”
First Place went to Judith Heausner for an acrylic “Vermillion Range.” She also received an Honorable Mention for her painting titled “Deep Roots.”
Second Place went to Steve Dudrow for “Illusions on the Playa.”
Third Place went to Amy Wells for her ink and pencil piece called “Dead or Alive.”
VVAA Emerging Artist went to Johnatan Tujillo for “More than meets the eye.”
Honorable Mentions went to Larry Zimmer for “They are always watching.” Tyler Roylance for “Pair-of-box-of Choice,” and Joy Lamb for “Bubble Tree.”
This month sponsor was Sherry Gosdis. Next will be the National Small Works Competition, “Lucky 13,” meaning no entries larger than 13”x13”.
