The Boulder City girls finished with (20) points to claim the automatic berth at state in the girl’s division. The M.V.H.S. Girls (48) were second and Virgin Valley (59) third.
Individually the Pirate Boys dominated the contest, posting tremendous individual times. Moapa Valley’s Josh Thompson and Chase Witter finished one-two as they paced the remainder for the field. Thompson won the race with a time of 17:04, 11 seconds ahead of Witter. The rest of the Pirate team finished with an impressive 7th through 11th places. According to coach Collup, “The team is running exceptionally well.” “Many of the boys and the girls ran their best times of the year, some taking more than a minute off their personal best. Derrick Cameron shaved over a minute and fifteen seconds off of his PR (Personal Record) time.” “The kids ran with great heart,” Collup continued. “I told them to leave it all on the track, and they did just that. “We take a lot of momentum with us as we head up North for State,” Collup said. With their first place finish, all seven members of the boy’s team qualify for the State Cross-Country Meet to be held this coming Saturday, November 7th in Reno, Nevada at San Raphael Park with the girls set to run at 10:30 AM and the boys set to begin at 1:30 PM. The top three girls, Tibi Willard, Jessany Mortensen, and Heidi Paul, also qualified to represent the Pirates at the State Meet. Each one of these student athletes that constitute the Pirate’s Cross-Country Teams should be congratulated. Their dedication and hard work has made this a wonderful season, and no matter what the outcome might be this coming weekend, everyone associated with Moapa Valley High School can be proud of their efforts.
