Mesquite Elks Lodge to celebrate Flag Day @ Veterans Memorial Park
Jun 14 @ 9:00 am – 10:00 am

The Mesquite Elks Lodge #2811 invites all citizens to join them in celebrating Flag Day on Friday, June 14 at Veterans Memorial Park on Hillside Drive. The ceremony will begin at 9 am featuring a pageant honoring all flags used since the American Revolutionary War (1777).

The first Flag Day was celebrated in Wisconsin in 1855 to celebrate the 108th anniversary of its use.
The Elks became the first national advocate of the ceremony in 1907 and bolstered its honor in 1911 when it became mandatory at all Elks Lodges.

The first national Flag Day celebration was held on June 14, 1916 with a proclamation from President Woodrow Wilson.

National celebrations were sporadic, except at Elks Lodges, until 1949 when President Harry Truman, himself an Elk, signed a bill into law, making Flag Day an official national observance.

There are many flags that have flown over our U.S. Capitol. Come to the ceremony next week and see them all.
