Moapa Valley Progress
The first meeting of Moapa Valley’s version of the Biggest Loser took place on Saturday, January 12. Throughout the day on Friday and Saturday over 100 participants were weighed in by Dr. Blaine Chambers, of Orem, UT, at the Sage Health and Empowerment store.
The meeting began with the final weigh-in from the 2007 competition. This is where any of the participants from the previous year’s competition could come forward and weigh-in to see if they had maintained or exceeded their previous efforts.
Congratulations goes to Roy Simmonds, who came in first place. He also won over-all male competitor at the end of the competition last March. Arlene Carl in second and Crystal Allen in third. It is a battle they have seemed to conquer, and will continue conquering as time goes on.
The group was then shown a video of last year’s competition showing some of the steps in the Moapa Valley’s Biggest Loser competition for those in the crowd who were experiencing it for the first time.
There were then three speeches given. The first was given by coach Paula Pulsipher, who helped organize the event and also helped design the program. Next, Registered Dietician, Mandie Matheson spoke. And finally Brent Hauver spoke on the value of setting goals to be successful in the competition.
As a final event of the night the various teams were announced and those which had not already decided came up with a team name, team color, and team motto that would be cheered at appropriate moments during the competition.
