Moapa Valley High School in partnership with the College of Southern Nevada will host a Parents Night on Thursday, March 27 at 6:30 pm in the MVHS Library. The Parents Night will be an open forum to discuss the partnership between Moapa Valley High School and the College of Southern Nevada to begin next year. Instructors, counselors, the principal, & CSN site coordinator will all be available to answer any question about the new program for the “Post Secondary Pirates”.

The new program will allow juniors and seniors the opportunity to take college courses during their high school day, earning college credit as well as concurrent high school credit. These classes will be held at the CSN satellite on the MVHS campus and at MVHS. To date the Partnership will include: Information Systems (IS 101), Introduction to Business (BUS 101), Financial Accounting (ACC 201), Managerial Accounting (ACC 202), Composition I (ENG 101), Composition II (ENG 102), College Algebra (MATH 124), Intro to American Politics (PSC 101) , & General Automotive (AUTO 105B). This is a possible 25-29 credits earned before the student graduates from high school. All of the above courses transfer to Nevada 4-year institutions. The cost of these college courses are the same as for any CSN student, estimating for next year at approximately $60/credit hour. This does not include books or fees.

“By taking advantage of these early college courses, your student could complete an associate degree within 1-2 years after high school, or enter a 4- year institution at the sophomore level.,” said CSN site coordinator April Krell.

CSN will also be offering on-line courses to high school juniors and seniors for a $25.00 tuition fee. Any applicable lab fees, technology fees or books are an additional cost. Students taking on-line courses may also receive concurrent high school credit on most courses. Students taking on-line courses will be able to use the library technology lab during an open period in their schedule. Verification of online enrollment will be needed to use the library lab during an open period. Please contact the high school counselors for more information and/or specific CSN programs that your child can take advantage of while still attending high school.
