It was only a few weeks ago when current VVHS Principal DeLos Perkins decided it was time to retire leaving a vacancy which was of interest to several applicants. Wilson interviewed and, within a week, had been offered the position.
“I am excited about this opportunity.” Said Wilson. Wilson explained that he will do what he can to maintain a “healthy” rivalry between the two valleys. Wilson and his family, wife Karen and children, Bethany and Jonathon moved to Moapa Valley in February of 2000. At that time Wilson worked as the Principal of Grant Bowler Elementary School. Three years later in February of 2003, Wilson made the move to the middle school as Principal where he has remained for the past five years. During that time the No Child Left Behind status was held strong at Mack Lyon and the school was even designated as “exemplary” one year. The majority of years it was designated as “High Achieving”. Wilson admits that it “broke his heart” to clean out his pirate things. He also freely admits that nothing green hangs in his closet. “I will be doing some shopping this summer,” He says. Wilson has no plans to relocate his family to Mesquite. “We will stay in Moapa Valley and I will commute,” he said. He believes this to be fair to his wife who teaches at Grant Bowler Elementary School in Logandale and to his son who is currently a Junior at Moapa Valley High School. There is no official word on who will fill his spot at Mack Lyon. Friday, May 9 was the deadline for applicants interested in the opening to submit their names for consideration. This week, applicants will be interviewing for the position. Wilson already speaks highly of his new home away from home. “Virgin Valley has a strong staff and community, it will be a lot of fun,” He said. And yes, Mr. Wilson will be wearing green for his first day on the new job. |
