Over 100 Boy Scouts ages 12 and 13 along with their leaders packed up and headed to the Bowman Reservoir on Friday, May 16, for the annual Scout Camporee.

Upon arrival scouts cleaned up the area of any trash to be found. Camp was set up and dinner made. A group activity was held at the main camp area and lights out was called. Rumor has it

Ready, Set, Go! Scouts compete in a relay race during the annual Scout Camporee held at Bowman Reservoir on Saturday, May 17.
the boys had a fun evening just hanging out and being boys.

The boys woke early Saturday morning and after a delicious breakfast, the games began. Ten troops competed in the Iron Man Competition.

First up was the Two Man Canoe Race. This race teamed boys in pairs and sent canoeists around the island and back to the bank. The second event was the Rescue Relay. Two rescuers took a canoe and paddled to rescue the “drowning” scouts who then traded positions and got everyone back to shore safely.

Scouts and their leaders enjoyed the Blind Paddler event during the annual Scout Camporee held on Saturday, May 17, 2008. Canoes tipped as soon as the competition began, good thing the boys were there to save the day for the leaders. Third event was the Canoe Spin. Scouts paired up in canoes and headed out beyond the marker line, then spun their canoes two and a half times before returning to shore.

The fourth event was the Troop Swamp. Four scouts entered the canoes, paddled beyond the marker and swamped their canoes, got their canoes right and made their way back to shore.

Next was the Olympic Relay which had the first Scout doing 25 push-ups, running to the bank to hand off the baton to two scouts who launched a canoe and rowed around the island. Upon return the baton was handed to a different scout who ran to the flag pole for a finish.

The Blind Paddler was the next fun event which had one Scout and one adult leader team up and participate. Leaders were blindfolded and given a paddle. Scouts were to direct the leader to paddle their canoes around the island and back. The Blind Paddler was entertaining as the grown men were left to the direction of these young boys. Several canoes were tipped but with no injuries to report.

The Iron Man Relay was the last of the group events held for the morning. This relay consisted of two sprinters, one swimmer, and two scouts to canoe. Scouts gave it their all and looked tired after a busy morning of events.

There he is in all his glory, Conner Mortensen, the official 2008 Boy Scout Iron Man! Way to go Conner. Conner beat out all other participating Scouts to claim the title for 2008. The last event of the morning was a voluntary participation. The boys interested in participating began with a swimming competition, the first nine boys to reach shore and take a canoe then participated in the remainder of the event. These boys certainly gave it their all and pushed themselves hard.

The winners were finally announced. In 5th place was Troop 326, 4th place Troop 162, 3rd place Troop 4, 2nd place Troop 32, and 1st place went to Troop 21. In the individual Iron Man Conner Mortensen took the honor of champion. Mortensen won his very own camelback and knife.
