Museum Staff Presents Award To L.V. School

Moapa Valley Progress
Submitted May 21, 2008
Each school year the Lost City Museum opens its doors to students from all over the world. This educational program, as well as many others the museum organizes, has been in existence for as long as Kathryne Olson, museum director of nearly 28 years, can recall.

Thousands of students visit the museum by bus and car each year, accompanied by teachers and chaperones, who all attend free. They learn of the “Ancient Ones,” the Ancestral Puebloan people.

This year an incentive program hoping to boost enthusiasm, aid a better learning atmosphere and encourage proper behavior during a school visit was introduced. The contest was based on a list of rules received by the lead teacher supporting these goals.

The staff and volunteers of the museum filed a “report card” on the classes, teachers and chaperones upon conclusion of their visit. The contest was opened to all registered schools planning to attend the Lost City Museum on a field trip during the year.

The museum staff announced last week that a “Certificate of Honor” for the school year of 2007/2008 is proudly awarded to Brown Junior High School, Honor Core Students, in Las Vegas, along with teachers, Mr. Chase and Mr. Slocum. All will receive a small token of appreciation for a job well done.

The Lost City Museum is open daily, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission charge is $3.00 for adults age 18 and over, $2.00 for anyone over 65. Children and members enter free. For more information, call the museum at (702) 397-2193.
