Prime contractors and county officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Gubler Bridge in Logandale on Wednesday, August 13. The newly constructed bridge recently opened to public traffic just a few short weeks ago. This project was completed just a bit behind schedule at a cost of approximately $4.2 million. According to Clark County all that remains to complete the project are a few “punch list” items which they project to be finished rather quickly.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with the attendance of members of the Gubler family, county officials, politicians and Town Board members. Clark County Public Works (CCPW) had a great set-up just east of the bridge.

Horses give the Gubler Bridge opening ceremony a pioneer flavor as they break the ribbon and perform a ceremonial crossing of the bridge followed by County Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Tom Collins, county staff and local Gubler family members.
Umbrellas, chairs and catering by Soiree’s were set up prior to the arrivals of guests. Channel 4 was even in attendance to capture the celebration.

CCPW’s Bobby Shelton gave an opening welcome and got things started. Shelton acknowledged a long list of project partners who were involved in making this project successful.

Gubler matriarch, Amber Gubler Terry, spoke for a moment on behalf of her family. “This is a real honor,” she began. Terry told the touching story of her family acquiring the land that now holds the Gubler Bridge. “This bridge is going to be a lifesaver to the residents of Moapa Valley,” she said concluding with “Thank you to those responsible, this is really a tribute to our family”.

County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury speaks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Gubler Bridge in Logandale. County Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Tom Collins each took a moment to speak. “We have completed another step forward in this beautiful community,” stated Woodbury.

Woodbury thanked the Gubler family as well as those responsible for completing the project. He also thanked Collins for being a driving force in getting this project started.

Collins also thanked Woodbury for his support and know-how in assisting with the project. “Thank you Bruce for pushing this project through,” he said. Collins recognized the Gubler family and the great tradition in Moapa Valley. “The pioneer spirit is very much alive here,” he said.

Gale Fraser, General Manager of the Regional Flood Control District then recognized Woodbury’s contribution to regional flood control.

“A big thanks to Bruce whose vision it has been to ensure rural communities are taken care of,” he said.

Fraser explained that the Gubler Bridge is capable of handling a 100 year flood, 21,000 cubic feet of water per second. To explain just how much water this is, Fraser said that a new basketball in its box measures approximately one cubic foot. “Imagine 21,000 basketball boxes every second traveling down stream, that is what this bridge can handle.”

Local members of the Gubler family gather for a photo on the new bridge following a ribbon cutting ceremony held August 13. Fraser was presented with a certificate of recognition from Senator Harry Reid’s office along with a thank you for all he has done for the community. “Congratulations on this beautiful bridge,” stated Reid representative Michael Vanozzi.

Following the speeches county officials and members of the Gubler family, led by a team of horses provided by the Sagebrush Ranch, broke through a ceremonial ribbon and took a celebratory walk across the new bridge. Members of the Gubler family expressed their enthusiasm with the completion of the new bridge named in their honor.
