Local author, Mike Donahue, has teamed up with well known Las Vegas physician Mel Pohl to co-author a new book on dealing with chronic pain. The book, entitled A Day Without Pain, is currently available online and will soon be in bookstores nationwide. It is published by Central Recovery Press.

The book is aimed at more than 50 million people in the US that suffer from long-lasting pain.

“Anybody in pain; who has long-lasting pain of 3-6 months or more; this book will really be a help to them,” Donahue said in an interview from his Overton home.

Donahue said that the tendency of the medical community is to immediately treat chronic pain with drugs. “More often than not, doctors just throw drugs at these types of problems,” Donahue said. “That isn’t always bad if it works. But there are a lot of people who want to try a more holistic method of treating their pain. This book addresses this.”

Local resident, Mike Donahue, has co-authored a new book about dealing with chronic pain.
A large section of the book is devoted to alternative holistic methods for dealing with pain. These include techniques like meditation, appropriate exercize, physical therapy, massage, aromatherapy and more.

“We give some ideas for people to help deal with chronic pain without, or in conjunction with, medication,” Donahue said.

Donahue is a retired journalist with over 35 years of writing and editing experience. His work has appeared in numerous national and international publications. He is the author of fiction and nofiction books about the west and its inhabitants. In 2005, he completed a historical fiction account about the rich history surrounding Mouse’s Tank in the nearby Valley of Fire State Park. The book is entitled Mouse’s Tank: The Legend Retold.

Donahue and his wife, Linda, own and operate Little Meadows horse farm in Overton.

Dr. Mel Pohl is Vice President of Medical Affiars and Medical Director of Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC), the only private freestanding, medically managed inpatient detoxification and addiction treatmnet facility in Las Vegas. He was a major force in developing LVRC’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program.
