Two juveniles went on a downtown Overton crime spree on Friday, September 12, stealing items from unlocked vehicles. The crime spree took place between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. said local police.

According to police, the two juveniles in question have been arrested and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Las Vegas. The two are scheduled to appear before Judge Lanny Waite in the Juvenile Court at a later date.

Early on Saturday, September 13, Metro began fielding calls regarding items stolen from vehicles. Police took a total of ten crime reports in a twelve hour period. Vehicles that had items taken from them were located in parking lots of local businesses as well as homes as far away as the Mack Lyon Middle School area.

On the evening of the September 13 Metro was able to locate the suspects based on previous contact with the suspects and their home being inclose proximity to the locations of the burglaries. A follow-up investigation led to the arrest of the two juveniles.

The thieves didn’t just grab items off the seats, they ripped dashes stealing stereos, removed items from trunks, took purses and many other miscellaneous items that had been left in the vehicles, police said. The majority of property was recovered and returned to owners. The two were each charged with 12 counts of Felony Burglary and four counts Felony Possession of a Credit Card without Owners Consent.

In addition to the auto burglaries that were reported, Metro located other victims who did not call police to report their vehicles were burglarized. We want residents to be aware of suspicious behavior and report those situations and times when they have been victims of a crime, said local police.

The majority of property was recovered and returned to owners. The police are still in possession of property that has not been claimed by victims. If you were a victim of an auto burglary around the weekend of September 12, and have not contacted the police, you may call the Overton Substation during business hours to see if police have recovered your property.

Police advise that you must be able to give an accurate description of any missing property in order to ensure the right property is returned to the appropriate owners.
