MV Voters Meet The Candidates

The Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce held a Meet the Candidates night on Thursday, September 18 at the Old Overton Gym. The Chamber had sent invitations to every candidate running in the upcoming election.

Approximately 20 candidates were scheduled to be in attendance. In anticipation of this number the Chamber set up 23 tables to accommodate candidates. When all candidates had arrived for the evening there were

several doubled up at tables as approximately 30 candidates or representatives made an appearance.

Candidates spent the two hours answering questions posed by local voters, as well as visiting with one another.

Candidate for Family Court Judge in Department K, Cynthia Giuliani was in attendance with the help of her two little ones. They helped mom get her table decorated with colorful candies as well as literature supporting her campaign which has a slogan of “Families First”.

Judge Stefany Miley running for District Court District 23 visits with locals during Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce Meet the Candidates night. Family Court Dept. N candidate, Mathew Harter, had the whole family behind him at the event. The Harter family lives right here in Logandale and they came to the event in matching white campaign shirts.

Candidate for Family Court Judge in Department Q, Bryce Duckworth was in attendance as well. Duckworth was handing out literature and stress relieving “ducks” to those who visited his table. Duckworth vows to “apply the law with compassion and fairness”.

Others in attendance included campaign workers for Dina Titus, US Congress District 3; Steve Sisolak and Brian Scroggins both running for County Commission District A; Commissioner Tom Collins and Gary Hosea running for County Commission District B; Assemblyman Joe Hardy and opponent Dan Briggs running State Assembly District 20; Deborah Schumacher running for Justice Supreme Court;

Also in the room were Family Court Department J, Lisa Kent; Family Court Department K, Vincent Ochoa and Cynthia Giuliani; Family Court Department N, Gayle Beck-Nathan and Mathew Harter; Family Court Department Q, Bryce Duckworth and Carl Piazza; Family Court Department R, Chuck Hoskin; State Board of Education, Chris Wallace; and Clark County School District B, Ron Taylor.
“We were happy that the event was such a success,” said Chamber of Commerce President, Vernon Robison. “We appreciate that so many of the candidates took their time to come out to this community. I think that it gave people here an opportunity to really see what each one of these candidates is all about.”
