At 12:30 am on New Years Day the Moapa Valley Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of a house fire. The house was located on Cottonwood Ave. in Overton.

Clark County Fire Investigation Division has not yet determined officially, what the cause of the fire was. It was speculated by those at the scene that the fire started in the roof above the kitchen.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, the Department drafted from an irrigation pond on the property.

One person was in the home at the time the fire started. When the fire was discovered, the individual left the home and called the fire department at neighboring home.

The house received moderate damage and no one was injured as a result of the fire.
