The food was so delicious and the entertainment so excellent that one would hardly believe that this Valentine’s Day event was a fundraiser. But it was; and a very successful one at that.

About 200 people attended the Sweeheart Dinner Concert held on Saturday at the Moapa Valley High School Student Center. The menu included a perfect dutch oven chicken with accompanying potatoes and baked

beans all finished off with a variety of Valentines Day desserts. The entertainment was the sweet music from the MVHS Orchestra program.

The purpose of the event was to raise money for the MVHS Orchestra students to pay for a trip they will take this spring. In the weeks leading up to the event, students sold tickets to the event to families, friends and loved ones.

Organizers were overjoyed with the attendance at the dinner. “This is a wonderful and successful evening,” Orchestra teacher Walter White told the audience in attendance. “All of you have made it possible. We thank you for your support.”

While attendees enjoyed dinner, the Orchestra students played several sets of music throughout the evening. The performances of the Intermediate, Advanced and Chamber orchestras each added a touch of class to the event.

About 200 orchestra fans attended the Sweetheart Dinner held on the evening of Valentine’s Day to help raise funds for a MVHS Orchestra trip this Spring. The meal was prepared by parents of orchestra students. Kevin and Suzie Bennett began preparing food for the dinner in the morning. The dutch oven cooking went on throughout the afternoon with assistance from the Winzenreid and McMurray families. The assorted delicate cakes that were served as dessert were made by Annetta Romero.

The food for the fundraiser was purchased at a deep discount from Lin’s Marketplace. Lin’s started off by donating a $150 gift card to offset the expense of the meal. Then, the price of the items needed were marked down to cost in a desire to help in the effort.

“From a fundraising standpoint, we would have not have had nearly the success if it weren’t for the generosity of Lin’s,” said Jacqulyn Pray, who coordinated the event. “We appreciate all that Lin’s has done for us and continue to do for the community.”
