When Will We Say ‘Enough’?
To the Editor:
When will we as a community stand up and say, “ENOUGH!” Enough of this usurpation of power that incrementally strips us of our liberties! Enough of having our “representative” at the county consistently ignore our wishes! He does not know what is best for us!

The Declaration of Independence states, “Experience [has shown] that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”

We are certainly accustomed to dealing with Clark County, but recently it has gone from being an inconvenience to an insufferable mess. It is time to do more than just talk about how outraged we are, it is time to SHOW that we are outraged, and that we will not permit it to continue.

In the last three months, our valley has been subjected to having our will ignored concerning who should represent us on our TAB. In addition, we are seeing a targeted attack on valley business owners via the business license amnesty program. If this program is a strategy to increase revenue (understandable in these economic times) then why not include the unincorporated areas of the Las Vegas valley, which has many more businesses? And now we are seeing that our voice is being ignored with this rush to redraw current township boundaries.

On the surface, these things may seem insignificant, but they are nothing short of a planned and systematic effort by Commissioner Tom Collins to punish valley residents for disagreeing with him. Commissioner Collins has clearly forgotten hat he works for us. We do not work for him.

The Moapa, Moapa Valley and Bunkerville TABs have been working on redrawing the township lines for some time now, and just last month, they came to an agreement. Yet Tom Collins has stepped in and decided to waste county resources to draw his own lines. Make no mistake, these proposed township lines are not the county’s doing, they are Tom Collins’. It matters because once again, Commissioner Collins has decided to ignore the voice of those people that he is constitutionally bound to represent.

Many people have voiced their displeasure over these issues, but that’s not enough anymore. The time is NOW to stop merely talking and actually DO, for if we do not, we will soon realize that our liberties are gone.

Here are the things that we, as a community MUST DO:

1) Contact all 5 Moapa Valley TAB members to let them know we oppose Tom Collins’ proposed township lines. Call them, write letters, talk to them when you see them.

2) The same goes for ALL county commissioners. Send emails and leave messages. They all need to know that Tom Collins is abusing his power and failing to fulfill his duties and we demand it stop.

3) This issue will be heard at the TAB on Wednesday April 1. Be there to oppose it.

4) The most important thing is to be at the Commissioners meeting where this will be discussed and voted upon. The date isn’t set yet, but we need as many people as we can get to be at that meeting. Freedom is not free, it must be fought for. This is our fight, and we as a community must either decide now to fight these abuses or allow Tom Collins to dictate to us how we live our lives.

5) If we truly want to rid ourselves of this leviathan, we must incorporate. Incorporation won’t solve all of our problems, but it will address our biggest problem.

6) Finally, understand that to be successful in regaining our voice, it will take a sustained effort, from the community as a whole.

To Be Or Not To Be…Angry With Tom Collins?
To the Editor:
Looks like Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins is at it again. Stirring the ire of some locals, disrupting the plans of the existing power structure, garnering yet another hostile editorial and making a decision. Yes, this appears to be, “Deja-vu All Over Again…” as last week’s editorial was entitled. The real problem is that he makes decisions and gets things done running counter to the established principle known as Group Think (the reader may want to Google this term).

But the question remains, why would Commissioner Collins obtain an approval from the Moapa Town Board to redraw town boundaries in northeast Clark County if such an agreement had already been mutually reached by Moapa, Bunkerville and the greater Overton/Logandale area? Were the town boundary issues formally resolved or not? Does or did an actual written and signed agreement exist? Or was this agreement merely conceptual, representing the good intentions of all the parties and just a lot of hot air?

Those of us that prefer a rural community with large lots and abundant open space also realize that the right kind of residential and commercial development provides jobs. Perhaps Commissioner Collins feels that many of his constituents need work and hopes to jump start the local economy by removing a roadblock to the massive Riverview project. Considering the sad state of the economy; thank you Commissioner Collins for anything you can do.

Progress One-sided As Usual
To the Editor:
As usual the Progress was one sided. Of course it was not mentioned that a map was voted on at Moapa, and then Moapa was requested to back Moapa Valley at the Bunkerville meeting which they went to and planned on doing until, to their surprise and astonishment, Moapa Valley had changed the boundaries which had been agreed upon. This of course made Moapa’s vote null and void. If this fiasco had not occurred, Bunkerville might have given their OK and the whole process would have been over, so who is really to blame. Not Commissioner Collins for sure, and having been at the fiasco in Bunkerville some of the people here are much more willing to trust Commissioner Collins word then Moapa Valley. This was of course totally overlooked by the press.
