The Mack Lyon Middle School dancers, Lyon Locomotion have had a busy year. With a new coach, Sara Leavitt and newly choreographed dances by the girls themselves, the team finished out their season with “A Night To Remember” Dance Revue on Saturday, March 28.

The girls performed nine dances in all including “Pocketful of Sunshine” which earned them a 2nd place trophy at the State Championships. They performed “Shawty Get Loose” which

earned them a third place trophy at State and “Apologize” which earned them another second place trophy at State. Danielle Pray also performed a solo dance to “A Twist in My Story” which she performed at State earning herself a first place.

A great addition to the Revue this year was a guest performance by a newly formed dance team the Ute V. Perkins Elementary Dancers, the Patriot Rockers. This group consists of 25 girls in the 3-5 grades. The team is under the direction of Music/Art Teacher Vince Dasal with the assistance of Leslie May. The group was dressed in pink as they danced to “Break It Off”.

Following the dances the girls changed into beautiful gowns and were each introduced with a short bio read by Leavitt. As each of the girls was introduced Leavitt announced the 8th grade girls would all be furthering their dancing careers at Moapa Valley High School next year as Pirate Motion Dancers. Two of the girls made the Varsity team, Aubrey Benson and Skyler Simmons. The other girls made the Junior Varsity, Shealyn Belcher, Leanna Learn, Delacy Peterson, Ashley Henson, Alex Nelson, Danielle Pray and Ashley Winnefeld.

To end the evening captains Skyler Simmons and Danielle Pray presented Leavitt with a bouquet of flowers and a quilt which the girls made themselves. Each of the girls created their own quilt square which was then put together to make up the quilt. The girls explained that their team was much like a quilt in that each of them was an individual and they couldn’t become one until they were held together by that uniting thread. They told Leavitt that she was what brought them together and made them a team. The girls hoped that this quilt will be something for Leavitt to remember them by.
