Pirate Motion Presents Annual Dance Revue

The annual Pirate Motion Dance Revue was held on Monday, March 16 in the Gary Batchelor Gymnasium. The theme of the evening, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow”. The standing room only gymnasium was beautifully decorated in pink for the evening with the two State Champion trophies on display.

This years Revue was full of talent. The little ones that attended the Pirate Motion Junior Dance Camp all dressed in pink, performed their recently learned dances and the MVHS Cheerleaders were invited to perform their Competition Show Cheer.

Also performing were the Mack Lyon Middle School ‘Lyon Locomotion’ dancers and the Pirate Motion Junior Varsity.

Giving attendees a blast from the past were the ever so lovely ‘Deb’s of the Past’ performing to “Tequilla” choreographed by Audrey Johnson. The group included Barbara Richardson, Kay Batchelor, Theresa Flynn, Tonia Payne, Betty Heitmann, Evelyn Tankersly, Soledad Garcia, Judy Seely, Pat Lewis and Audrey Johnson.

The 3A State Champion Pirate Motion Dancers performed a variety of numbers which included “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” choreographed by Alyssa Eide and Betsy Hardy; “Whip It” choreographed by Olivia Dominguez, Alyssa Eide and Taylor Halstead; “Momma Mia” choreographed by Taylor Halstead; “Go All Out”, the Nevada 3A 3rd place Hip Hop Routine choreographed by Olivia Dominguez; “Beat It!” choreographed by Alyssa Eide; “Encore” choreographed by Betsy Hardy and “Run the Show” choreographed by Theresa J Bybee, the Nevada 3A 1st place Jazz Routine.

Team Captain Olivia Dominguez along with Co-Captains Alyssa Eide and Taylor Halstead danced the Captains Dance which they choreographed to “Feedback” and the traditional Senior Lyrical was performed to “Please Remember”. As Dominguez is the only outgoing senior she asked the rest of the team to perform with her, she also choreographed the dance.

A video presentation by Taylor Halstead was shown highlighting the past year. During this time the girls made their way back stage to change into their formal gowns for the traditional Waltz. Each girl selected a boy to escort them for this final dance of the year. This year’s Waltz was choreographed by Olivia Dominguez and Ashlee German to “I Hope You Dance”.

Following the Waltz was the presentation of awards. First Coaches Lana Hardy and Toni Halstead presented each dancer with a small trophy recognizing their 3A State Championship win. All awards given were voted on by the girls.

The Most Spirited went to Alexis Gonzales who was called fun, talented and goofy; the JV Most Improved went to Amanda Powell who was said to be spirited, fun and hard working; Varsity Most Improved went to Kristyn Kohl for being a first year dancer who was described as very dedicated with great technical growth; Choreographer of the Year went to Alyssa Eide for her work on the “Beat It” routine; and the Miss Deb Award was presented by Katherine Hannig to Olivia Dominguez.

In addition a $500 Honesty, Ethics, and Excellence Scholarship was given to Olivia Dominguez. Dominguez not only has amazing dance skills but excels academically maintaining over a 4.0 grade point average for the year. This scholarship was given by Buddy and Toni Halstead.

The final award given was the Dancer of the Year award. “This is the highest honor a Pirate Motion Dancer can receive” stated Coach Hardy. This award was presented to Olivia Dominguez for her sportsmanship, showmanship, choreography skills, academic excellence and for being such a great example to teammates and coaches. “You are truly one of a kind” stated Hardy and Halstead.

A new tradition was started with the end of the evening. The Captains for the upcoming year were announced. Alyssa Eide and Ashlee German will be the 2009 – 2010 Captains.
