Moapa and Station 74 in Overton were called in to assist in the effort.
Firefighters had to remove barricades that had been placed to block the roads into the abandoned property. “The owner had tried to block the roadway with a cable and an old car,” said Clark County Fire Department Rural Coordinator Kurt Leavitt. “We had to cut through the cable and move the car to gain access to the property.” The metal building which was ablaze housed a large workshop and storage area at one end and was partitioned into what appeared to be office spaces on the other end, said Leavitt. “We started off with an external attack at the beginning,” Leavitt said. “There were some propane tanks that were going off inside so we kept everyone out. But once we had things cooled down a little we were able to breach through some roll-up doors into the building.” Firefighters spent about five hours on the scene extinguishing the fire. “It was not until a little before midnight that we were leaving the scene,” Leavitt said. Clark County Fire Department inspectors were called in to investigate the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. |
