LETTER: Thanks To Boy Scouts

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Boy Scouts of Pack 118!

We recently had the good fortune of becoming a Community Service Project for the Boy Scouts. Like many Senior Citizens, we are on a fixed income, and like many people in the Valley, our yard was overrun with weeds after the spring rains. Everytime we looked out a back window, or went outside, we cringed as the job was overwhelming for us, and quickly becoming a fire hazard.

To our rescue came the Boy Scouts. It was suggested to us that we contact Patrick Donohue, Scoutmaster of Pack 118, to see if they would take our ‘crop’ on as a Community Service Project. He came to our home to take a look, and graciously accepted the challenge. My husband jokingly asked for what “high crimes and misdemeanors” were they serving community service?, and the Scoutmaster replied “rustlin’!” (Everyone knows, community service is part of scouting!) Arrangements were made and early on Saturday morning, Patrick and two strong and hard-working scouts, named Steven & “T.C.” showed up armed with plenty of water, tools and a small tractor. It took two days, but when they finshed, there was not a weed in sight.

We are very grateful to the Scouts for all of their effort and the great job that they did. Just another in a long list of reasons why we love living in this valley.

Esti & Thom Hutchinson
