By Tasha Gorman

Moapa Valley Progress

Flu season is on its way and the Moapa Valley Fire Protection District, in conjunction with the Clark County Fire Department, will be offering free seasonal flu shots in Moapa Valley.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the seasonal flu vaccine protects against the three influenza viruses that are predicted to be most common during the upcoming flu season.

Vaccines will be available on this afternoon from 3:00-5:30 at the Logandale Fire Station located at 3570 Lyman Street. They will also be given on Thursday, October 21 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at the Overton Fire Station located at 310 N. Moapa Valley Blvd. and in Moapa on Friday, November 19 from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at the Moapa Fire Station located at 1340 E. State Highway 168.

Claudia Gamaleri, Moapa Valley Fire District Secretary, explained that it’s beneficial for everyone to receive a flu shot. “People don’t get ill, or as ill, and they don’t have to go to the hospital near as often because they don’t go into the complications,” Gamaleri said.

The influenza vaccines are free and are available to everyone ages six months and older. The flu shot is not recommended for individuals with allergies to eggs.
