Utility Rate Increases

The Moapa Valley Water District board met to discuss the findings of their recent rate study. Preliminary results of the study concluded that the District will have to raise rates 21.5% over the next three years and then drop to an annual increase of 8% to keep up with operation and maintenance costs.

The Overton Power District study indicates a 12% increase could be justified, although OPD management will recommend a 10% increase. “The cost of power is what is driving the increase,” Delmar Leatham, OPD General Manager, stated.

Smoke Drill

The Moapa Valley Fire District held a training program on Overton’s Main Street. The Clark County Fire Department furnished a smoke machine which rapidly filled the abandoned Orville Perkins house with thick, blinding smoke. This was to simulate a burning building with three children trapped inside. The drill gave firefighters the opportunity to experience using new tanks and equipment designed for fire and rescue work.

This feature is made possible by the Old Logandale School Historical and Cultural Society archives and the gracious assistance of Beezy Tobiasson.
