Silence. Deafening silence. One could feel the tension quivering in the room.
After almost four months of avoiding overuse of adverbs; coordination of like words; avoiding abstract nouns and de-dangling participles – the test was upon us.
Fifty-four years of experience had been downloaded into questioning minds once again. It could be a metaphor or a simile, or, maybe, a sentiment but never a sentimentality.
There were so many words to remember. How to use them effectively on paper has been the crusade of this dedicated teacher.
Soon it would be over. He had done his best. English, Forensics and the Theatre were his forte. For me, it has been a privilege and a challenge to glean some of the knowledge of this man in his final class before retirement.
