PASTORAL MESSAGE: May The Spirit Of Christmas Linger

By President Matt Messer

LDS Logandale Stake

Many welcome this Christmas season with great anticipation. During this time of year, our thoughts and hearts are drawn toward our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The story of the Birth of the Savior, which we read in Luke chapter 2, lingers with us: “…And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Mankind is usually more thoughtful, patient, and full of love as they consider the birth of the Babe of Bethlehem. Do you think those in Bethlehem at the time knew the long-anticipated and foretold birth of the Savior was in their midst? With the birth of the babe in Bethlehem, there emerged a great gift, longer lasting than the money of Caesar, stronger than weapons. This child born was to be the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Promised Messiah, even Jesus Christ the Son of God. Born in a stable, cradled in a manger, he came forth from heaven to live on earth as mortal man and to establish the kingdom of God.

During His earthly ministry He taught and lived the higher law. Yet, there were precious few who appreciated Him.

May we more fully appreciate His words and example by treating our brothers and sisters with more love and respect. May we more quickly forgive, more slowly take offense, and treat others as He treated them.

It is my hope and prayer that the spirit of Christmas will linger throughout the year.
