LETTER: Town Board Service Rewarding

Last week I received a letter from the Department of Administrative Services thanking me for applying to serve as a member of the Moapa Valley Town Advisory Board. The letter stated that “unfortunately” I was not selected for that appointment.

I thought “Gee, where’s the thanks for having served nearly six years.”

Then I reminded myself that everyone has always told me that it’s a thankless job!

On a more serious note, in truth my service on the Board has been rewarding. From the community I have felt appreciation not only from kind words but also from a show of support as important issues have come before us. As a Board we have lost some and won others, but in the end your much needed support has made a difference and has not gone unnoticed.

While I have not always been in agreement with every decision by the Commissioners, I nonetheless owe a debt of gratitude. As examples, I’ll always remember when Commissioner Collins helped me as we walked shoulder to shoulder down a hall in the Government Center to solve processing issues for the Master Plannned Wittwer Park. I appreciate Commissioner Sisolak for always having a listening ear. Commissioner Giunchigliani went above and beyond the call of duty when she volunteered as a third party advocate in the Town Boundary issue. In the background is the ever present, hard working and knowledgeable Clark County Staff.

I wish to genuinely congratulate the newly appointed Board Members and recognize their willingness to sacrifice time in serving the Community. Stalwarts Judy (Metz) and Gene (Houston) have diligently served as Board Members for a combination of more than two decades. They both have historical knowledge and experience necessary for making good decisions in our behalf. Their combined experience will give continuity and credibility to a mostly new Board. Thanks to Dustin (Nelson), Michael (Otero) & Nathan (Hendricks) for your willingness to sacrifice your valuable time and energy in our behalf.

As I close this chapter of Town Board service, I look forward to supporting all of you and wish you the best.

Guy Doty
