Brushes, plates, paint, movie, plastic bag paint clothes, cleaning cloths – the first grade class students at the Grant M. Bowler Elementary School in Logandale were ready to begin a time of creation.

Bowler Art Teacher, Clint Brill, was excited for the class to begin as some of these paintings might be chosen to hang at the Clark County Fair.

Brill explained that because of the close proximity of the school to the Logandale Fairgrounds it was an easy matter to be involved with the Fair. With 600 possible pictures to choose from, Brill usually selects about 60 paintings or other crafts to show in the fair. He quickly added that parents could also enter their children’s creative works.

The day’s lesson involved portraits and the understanding that our likeness – hair, eyes, nose, mouth, skin – were also our differences – hair, eyes, nose, mouth, skin. From a palette of many colors, basic colors were chosen or mixed together and the creative process began.

Student Bronson stated he enjoyed art because it was fun. Edyn quickly chimed in an agreement. Jacob and Jillian liked being creative while Morgan, Seth and Colton discussed the many colors and how to use them effectively. Liesl put it all together and said the best thing about art was the paint.

Ellie advised that she liked the fair and having something entered because people would look at it and maybe think that it was good. Jesenia and Jadyn both added that fairs were fun; especially the Ferris Wheel. Juan Carlos and Alexix readily agreed then joined with the others as they busily began to clean up the tables, the floor, themselves, put the paintings up to dry and lined up to go on to another educational endeavor.

Young Troy summed up the whole experience – “It’s all about sharing with others.”

The children of Moapa Valley are encouraged to enter their artwork and/or other crafts and items to the Fine Arts exhibit at the Fair. Look for details at www.ccfair.com.
