OBITUARY: Jay May

Jay May

My Friend, My Sweetheart, My Hero, Jay Allen May, age 72, died Sunday, February 20, 2011 in St. George, Utah. He was born December 27, 1938 in Oak City, Utah to Richard Morgan May and Eunice Mae Anderson. On December 19, 1964 he married Elma Jean Alldredge in the St. George LDS Temple.

Jay grew up in Delta, Utah and served as an LDS missionary in the Southwest Navajo Indian Mission. He earned his teaching degree from SUU in Cedar City, Utah. He taught school in Tooele, Utah, a few years in Las Vegas, Nevada and finally in Overton, where he moved his family.

Family and church were the two most important things in Jay’s life. He served in many callings, including in the bishopric. One of the callings he enjoyed most was being a home teacher and it was very hard for him when he could no longer do it. He spent hours coaching, playing with and teaching his family. He enjoyed fishing and baseball and being with his grand kids.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie of Overton, NV; three sons and four daughters: Todd (Anna) of San Diego, CA; Tony (Tina) of Las Vegas, NV; Jennifer (Dave) Parke of Salt Lake City, UT; Brent (Amy) of Logandale, NV; Michelle (Jared) Higgs of Panguitch, UT; Melissa (Chad) Gray of Cedar City, UT; Juliann (Cody) Wilson of Cedar City, UT; 25 grandchildren; one brother and three sisters: Donald (Peggy) of Fresno, CA; Darlene (Dale) Workman of Provo, UT; EmaLee May of Provo, UT; Judy Kelly of CT. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Flora Woods, Richard and Kenneth.

Funeral services will be held Thursday February 24, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Overton 2nd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Pioneer Hill Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
