Overton Lin’s Marketplace will be holding an event called the Pre-Fair Pig Out on Saturday, March 12 from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm. Local Metro officers will be on hand cooking up some tasty pork dishes, which will be sold to benefit the 4H and FFA who will have a booth promoting both organizations. At this time, residents can pledge to purchase one of the fine animals to be sold at the livestock auction at the upcoming Clark County Fair.
Lori Houston and friends will be holding a bake sale as well. The proceeds from this booth will benefit the community 4th of July event held later this year.
The idea for the Pre-Fair Pig Out Event started at a staff meeting at Lin’s Marketplace, said Assistant Store leader Jeff Phillips. While looking at a calendar of National Days, March 1 stood out as National Pig Day. The staff started throwing out ideas on what they could do with that and the ball started rolling from there, Phillips said.
When the store contacted local Metro Sergeant Bret Empey to cook, Empey suggested tying the event to the fair, Phillips explained.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the community support,” Phillips stated. “Metro has been a huge help, and we couldn’t have pulled together this event without them.”
Among the other events planned, the store will also be holding Kid’s Club that day, where participants will have the opportunity to make pig noses and pig balloons. The store will also be providing hayrides.
Farmland Pork has provided all the pork that LVMPD will be cooking on the day.
Lin’s would like to make the Pre-Fair Pig Out an annual event. Some of the ideas discussed that may possibly come to fruition next year are a Mutton Bustin’ Exhibition, a mechanical bull, and a Running with the Pigs event. In the meantime, this year’s event is shaping up to be good fun.
