The Mack Lyon Middle School Drama Department held its final production of the school year last week in the middle school auditorium.
Each of the two Lyon theatre classes staged a different play for the program. The first was called “Dress Rehearsal for Murder” by Edith Weiss.
For this production drama student Drake Waite was called upon to learn one of the character’s lines in one day because student who was to play the character was sick.
“I think it’s so amazing that he did that,” Bev Bradley, teacher of the theater classes, said proudly. “Normally, it takes the full nine weeks for everyone to learn their lines. But Drake pulled it off in just a few hours.”
The second play was called “Aunt Maggity’s Dark and Stormy Night.” This short play was a mystery involving a last will and testament, a very strange family, and a butler’s near-death experience.
“I love how the kids pull together like a team and cover for each other,” Bradley said. “They improvise really well and more than half of them are only in seventh grade. I absolutely love teaching them.”
