Beth Elda Despain Scott

Beth Scott, age 95, died Tuesday, July 27, 2011 in Overton, Nevada. She was born September 1, 1915 in Clifton, Idaho to Asael Oscar and Zaida Marguerite Goucher Despain. On September 30, 1933 she married Reed Scott, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 8, 1934. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1997.

Beth grew up in Chino Valley and Prescott, Arizona. After she was married, they lived in Arizona, Idaho and California, where she worked as a payroll clerk at McClellan Air Force Base and later in San Diego, CA for the Department of Defense. She retired to Veyo, Utah; St. George, UT, LaVerkin, UT and then finally to Overton, NV.

Beth loved to read, cook, listen to music and handicrafts. Beth will be remembered for her friendship-she treasured her friends and they treasured her. People were drawn to her genuine sincerity, generosity, honesty, kindness, interest in them , and her love of fun, life, and laughter.

Her greatest joy and love was her family.

Beth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many leadership and teaching positions. In 2002, at the age of 89, she and her daughter, Barbara Steinagel served as missionaries for the Member Location Mission.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters: Wayne (Margaret) Scott of Fresno, CA; Betty Jean (Marvin) Peterson of Winslow, AZ; Barbara Steinagel of Vancouver, WA; Kay (Ben) Robison of Overton, NV; Lamont (Sherry) Scott of Pleasant Grove, UT; 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen, grandson, BJ Robison, five brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Overton 3rd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be at the Pioneer Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book at www.moapavalleymortuary.com.
