Local residents Bob and Peg Smiley enjoyed an unexpected visit from a group of three bighorn sheep last week at their home on Pioneer Road in Logandale. One male and two female sheep came down one afternoon last week from the nearby hillside and helped themselves to the tender, green grass in the Smileys’ yard.
“What a delight to come out into the yard and see three beautiful bighorn sheep,” said Bob Smiley. “The condition of their coats was fine and they looked to be so very healthy. If we had to describe an animal’s state of mind, we would say they were contented and noble in their appearance as they grazed on our grass.”
The sheep were not in a bit of a hurry or alarmed at the appearance of their host.
“We took a few pictures of them within 40 feet,” Bob said. “They looked up at us, not a bit frightened – just kept on grazing for about an hour, at which point, they took another look at us, and moved along slowly, leisurely and elegantly up the hill with their magnificent gait.”
It turns out the Smileys were quite fortunate in their bighorn sheep siting. Bighorn sheep are known for being rather reclusive creatures. Most of the time, they are only sighted by people who are catching glimpses from afar.
“We feel very fortunate to have seen these three bighorn sheep, that they honored Logandale with their visitation to our beautiful valley,” said Smiley. “They are welcome back anytime. Our grass awaits them.”
