A man was killed in an ATV accident in the Logandale Trails area on Thursday January 26.
Volunteers from Logandale Station 73 were first on the scene. The accident occurred approximately 10 miles into the Logandale Trails system in the southwest part of the area past the second restroom, Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) officials said. Five volunteers travelled to the remote location using the Station’s new Polaris Ranger which had been outfitted as an emergency response vehicle.
The respondents came upon the victim in a ditch or a gully. They performed an assessment of what assistance was needed and began CPR, officials said.
“They worked with him about three minutes,” said CCFD Rural Coordinator Mike Johnson. “Then (Metro Police) Search and Rescue arrived on the scene. Within about 90 seconds of those guys showing up they were already transporting him by air in to Las Vegas. It was excellent response.”
The Metro Search and Rescue helicopter transported the victim to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The victim was identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office as 63 year-old Gerard Coichette of Elmont, New York. The cause of death was not immediately released.
Coichette was reportedly participating in a tour of the area with a touring company. The name of the touring company was not available.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
