The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is accepting public comments between now and May 17 in regards to recent fare adjustments and other proposed changes. A public hearing on the proposed fare structure changes will be held on Tuesday April 10 from 12:00 noon – 2:00pm at the City Hall in Mesquite City. The hearing will be held in the City Council Chamber.
“Like many government agencies, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) budget has been strained during the economic downturn,” said Deb Dauenhauer of the RTC. “Due to these fiscal challenges, the RTC formed a Fare Working Group, comprised of local stakeholders to provide policy and fare recommendations that would allow the RTC to address a long range budget shortfall.”
The Working Group’s recommendations were presented to the RTC’s Board of Commissioners on March 8. Those proposed changes include fare adjustments to the transit services in Southern Nevada. The Board authorized the RTC to hold a 60-day public comment period to obtain input from the community on the proposed fare adjustments. The 60-day period is designed for the RTC and SNTC to obtain community input about the fare recommendations before any decisions are made.
Following the public comment period, all comments will be submitted to the RTC Board at its May 17, 2012 meeting. None of the approved recommendations would be implemented before September 2012.
