Overton Medical Center owner Kay Leavitt has experienced some difficulty in arranging for a new doctor at the practice. The current doctor in the practice, Dr. Gladys Kodjoe will be leaving the community and will not be seeing patients after the end of this month. In addition, Leavitt intended to retire from his duties at the practice since May. So he has been trying to find someone to buy the practice from him.
He came pretty close a few weeks ago. He thought that he had the whole transaction wrapped up when the doctors he was working with on the deal fell through. This development threatened to leave the clinic with no doctor at all for a time.
Last week, after an extensive search, Leavitt announced that someone he had finally found someone to buy the practice.
“We have been trying all over to get doctors,” Leavitt said. “But now we have actually got a contract signed.”
Dr. Haseena Mirza and his associate, Dr. Tanvir Ahmed will be taking over the practice in September. The doctors have purchased the Overton Medical Center and will be here to stay, Leavitt said. The staff at Overton Medical are now scheduling appointments and will begin seeing patients after September 1.
Dr. Ahmed is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon with 25 years of experience in surgery. He also practices internal medicine.
Dr. Ahmed will be the main physician seeing patients in Overton while Dr. Mirza continues his practice in Las Vegas.
Mirza is board certified in cardiology and will provide care to Overton patients that are in need of cardiac, pulmonary, and neurological needs.
Along with his expertise in cardiology, Dr. Ahmed will focus on internal medicine.
“We will provide care for family issues, sports physicals, cold and flu as well as gastrointestinal issues,” said Dr. Mirza in an interview.
Mirza explained that cardiology problems lead to many other problems in the body. The practice will be able to provide care for those and many other issues to individuals in the community he said.
“We want to provide these services locally so you don’t have to travel to Las Vegas for care,” Mirza said.
