The CasaBlanca Resort will once again be the site of the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned Smokin in Mesquite BBQ Championships this weekend. With $40,000 in prize money, this is one of the biggest purses on the BBQ circuit.
This year’s event will feature the experts sharing their secrets with attendees in special classes and workshops.
Kelly Wertz, the Jack Daniels World Invitational BBQ Grand Champion and operator of the award winning 4 Legs Up BBQ & Steakhouse in Great Bend, KS will kick things off with his Learn to BBQ Class from 8AM-4PM on Friday August 31. This class will cover everything from utensils to techniques, chicken to brisket.
Ever want to learn how to be a KCBS BBQ judge? Your golden opportunity has come with the KCBS Judging Class to be held on Friday as well beginning at 5:30 PM.
The Smokin in Mesquite BBQ Championship has been selected as an automatic qualifier to the World Food Championships for its BBQ Division! This means that the Mesquite winner will get the chance to compete against BBQ champions from around the world.
The Smokin in Mesquite BBQ Championship will also be welcoming the KCBS Great American BBQ Tour to our festivities. The tour, now in it’s fifth year travels the nation to show millions of Americans what competition BBQ is about. We are honored to be included with the elite of BBQ competitions.
