“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
That’s how it reads: the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Quoted. Nothing more. The people keeping and bearing our own arms and being responsible citizens is the well regulated militia to which this refers. It is necessary for us, in order to hold ourselves secure in a state of freedom. And this right, even this duty, to defend myself shall not be abridged or impeded or infringed or deleted or minimized or stopped.
How much more direct could this statement be? It was gauged to enable the people at large to defend themselves against any standing army. That’s the government’s armed forces, from the local constabulary on up to the federal forces.
The 2nd Amendment is the only one in the Bill of Rights that comes with an explanation: Militias are necessary for the security of a free state. In other words, to secure for ourselves a state of being that would be free from rule by tyrants and despots.
I’ll close with a quote from Elbridge Gerry, in a debate in 1789. “Whenever Governments mean to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia.”

To the young voters that want to take our right to bear arms away. You are spitting on all the sacrifices that veterans have made since our country was founded. Young people; remember the sacrifices that your fathers, grandfathers and other patriots have made to give you the rights you have. Remember guns do not kill people, people kill people. What is the reason USA has not been invaded? Why can we past power peacefully when a new president is elected. Why do you have the right to vote and give your opinions without being locked up for your speaking out. Limiting our 2nd amendment is the first step in loosing our way of life. Treat the cause not the symptoms. Do not be lead around like a flock of sheep by unseen forces and the controlled media. We are Americans. .
