Vietnam Veterans To Hold Honors Breakfast In Mesquite

Vietnam Veterans of America, Mesquite Chapter 993 is honored to announce that Colonel Barry R. Cornish, Commander, 99th Air Base Wing, Nellis Air Force Base, will be the keynote speaker for the Vietnam Veterans Honors Breakfast on Saturday, October 26 at 8:00 a.m. in the Aquarium Room of the Eureka Casino Resort.

Colonel Cornish is the Installation Commander for Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base and the 2.9 million-acre Nevada Test and Training Range. He is responsible for 3 Groups and 14 Squadrons providing installation support for operational testing, tactics development, and advanced training in Air, Space and Cyberspace as well as global Remotely Piloted Aircraft operations.

Tickets for this event are $20 and can be purchased online at www.vvamesquite.com or at the Mesquite Veterans Center at 840 Hafen Lane, Mesquite (702-346-2735).  Tickets are on a first come basis.

This event coincides with The Cost of Freedom Tribute, an 80% replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. that will be on display at the Mesquite Recreation Center, 100 West Old Mill Road, beginning with the opening ceremony on Thursday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m. until the closing ceremony on Sunday, October 27 at 3:00 p.m.

The Wall will arrive in Mesquite, Nevada on Wednesday, October 23, with a motorcycle escort that will gather at Mile 75 at 3:00 p.m. and exit at Mile 122 where additional vehicles gathered at the parking lot of the former Mesquite Star will join the escort at approximately 3:45 p.m.  The first 200 motorcycle riders who sign up will receive a souvenir events vest pin sponsored by Zion Harley Davidson in Washington, Utah.

Other activities surrounding the Wall include a Traditional Paiute Blessing on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m., and a Service of Reconciliation on October 26 at 1:00 p.m.

The Cost of Freedom Tribute is co-sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America, Mesquite Chapter 993 and the Eureka Community Initiative Foundation. The Wall is provided by American Veterans Traveling Tribute.
