The members of the Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) with the Clark County Farm Bureau want to help local families in need through the Harvest For All Food Drive. This event will be held on Saturday, February 1. The YF&R group will be gathered in front of Lin’s Grocery Store from 9:00-3:00 collecting donations from shoppers. They will have their plastic milk cow out in front of the store where kids can practice milking the cow.
The cow will be fun for the kids but the goal is to collect food items for the needy families in the community.
“We do this to help the community and give a sense of pride and joy,” said YF&R Vice President Noah Reid. “The community sees people reaching out and we give them the ability to help as well.”
YF&R will be handing out a list of items that are needed at Cappalappa Family Resource Center. Folks can purchase them while they are inside the store and then donate the items as they come out.
Last year was the first time the Young Farmers & Ranchers began this activity. To their delight it was extremely successful. They collected approximately 1400 lbs of food that filled the beds of two pickup trucks.
Reid said that they have given Lin’s Market a heads-up on items that they will be asking for so they can have their shelves stocked up. Last year Lin’s stockpile of non-perishable items quickly became sold out.
This year food items that will be on the list include macaroni and cheese, condiments, canned meat (such as stews and chili) peanut butter, jelly, and Hamburger Helper or other boxed meals.
Two items that Cappalappa stressed that they are especially in need of is cereal and oatmeal.
“Cereal and Oatmeal are the items that they have a hard time getting so we want to push those items,” Reid said.
So as local residents head to the grocery store on Saturday to get food for their Super Bowl parties, they should be on the lookout for the Young Farmers & Ranchers and help them give back to the community.
