Public Comment Sought On OWMA Draft Plan

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is seeking public input on a draft Conceptual Management Plan for the Overton Wildlife Management Area. This plan’s purpose is to guide NDOW in its management of the area’s wildlife, their habitats, and related programs and activities, including hunting and other recreational uses.

A copy of the draft Conceptual Management Plan (CMP) is available online at www.ndow.org/Nevada_Wildlife/Wildlife_Management_Areas/. The draft CMP is an update of the original plan that was completed in the year 2000.

The Overton Wildlife Management Area (OWMA) is comprised of 17,665 acres at the southern end of Moapa Valley just below downtown Overton. The area’s ponds and seasonal wetlands are important waterfowl habitats. The OWMA also includes aquatic and terrestrial wildlife habitats home to sensitive plant species as well as non-game birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

Comments on the draft CMP are due no later than July 1 and can be submitted via email at overtoncmp@ndow.org; or by regular mail at Nevada Department of Wildlife, Habitat Division, 1100 Valley Road, Reno, NV 89512.

Comments may also be submitted at the June 17 meeting of the County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife. The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Pueblo Room of the Clark County Government Center.
